Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo

Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo is a lawyer and economist with extensive experience in competition law and public administration. He served for ten years at the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) as President, Commissioner, and Superintendent General, holding some of the most senior leadership positions within Brazil’s antitrust authority.
He holds a Ph.D. in Economic Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, a Master’s degree in Constitutional Law from the Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research (IDP), and a postgraduate specialization in Disciplinary Administrative Proceedings from the University of Brasília. He was also a Visiting Scholar and International Fellow at the Global Antitrust Institute of the Antonin Scalia Law School in Washington, D.C. Currently, he serves as Vice President of Institutional Relations at Clube de Regatas Vasco da Gama. He previously served on the Bureau of the Competition Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and as a Council member of the American Bar Association (ABA).
Earlier in his career, he was a career federal auditor at the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) and served as Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Cities. He is a Professor of Economic Law and Law & Economics at the Brasília Law School and a visiting professor in postgraduate programs at the University of Brasília, State University of Campinas, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS), IBMEC, and FDV – Fundação Getulio Vargas School of Law Vitória. He is the author of the books “Collaboration Among Competitors: Collective Bargaining and the Countervailing Power Doctrine” and “Financial Fair Play in Brazilian Football”, as well as the editor and contributing author of “Special Topics in Competition Law.” He has also published numerous articles in books, academic journals, and newspapers.
He frequently lectures at conferences and universities in Brazil and abroad, including events at Harvard Law School, Northwestern University, the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the International Competition Network, Global Competition Review, and Concurrences.
